PRESS RELEASE – February 26, 2020 – In a recent Court of Queen’s Bench decision, Justice Romaine directed the Alberta Government to issue a decision on Prosper Petroleum Ltd.’s (Prosper) Rigel Oil Sands Project (Rigel) within 10 days. Less than two days later, the government made an application for appeal and requested a stay of Justice Romaine’s decision.
The application for a stay was heard in the Court of Appeals today. Prosper’s hopes of finally getting the Rigel Project moving forward were dashed when Justice Strekaf granted the Crown a stay until such time as an appeal could be heard. The appeal date is set for April 27, 2020, in Edmonton.
